UMCH College Semester

Start your medical studies more knowledgable

Condensed knowledge for your medical studies

You have already successfully graduated from high school and want to realize your dream of studying medicine?

During UMCH’s 12-week medical prep course, the College Semester, you’ll join equally motivated prospective students in preparing for your dream of studying medicine. In the process, you will acquire essential basic scientific knowledge in a university setting, participate in on-campus events, and get a multi-faceted taste of your future student life – whether on the ultra-modern UMCH campus in cosmopolitan Hamburg or online.

Optimal preparation for your medical studies

Use your time until the start of your studies wisely to find out where you are lacking in knowledge, to close these gaps and to build on the newly acquired knowledge. In this way, you will gain self-confidence and motivation and, after completing the course, you will be able to start your time-intensive medical studies in a relaxed and optimally prepared manner. In addition to Biology, Chemistry and Physics, other subjects that are important for the study of medicine are also taught during the College Semester: Mathematics, Biochemistry, Anatomy and Medical Theory. Through laboratory exercises and other practical applications, the College Semester also has an exceptionally high practical relevance. Classes are taught in English, the international language of science, which allows you to learn important technical vocabulary for your studies at an early stage. In addition, you will be specifically prepared for the university admission procedure in the course of the preparatory course. Finally, you will get the chance to participate in the admission procedure for the study of medicine at UMCH.

Experience an unforgettable time together

During the course you will meet many prospective medical students who, like you, are preparing for their upcoming studies and want to have an unforgettable time. This will give you a great opportunity to meet new people and make contacts with like-minded people early on. Explore the metropolis on the Elbe together – for example, on a bike tour into the beautiful nature of Hamburg’s surrounding countryside, on a harbor tour, or by visiting the city’s countless sights, such as the impressive Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall. In addition to the lessons in the natural science subjects, you can also expect other group activities, such as joint cooking activities or the opportunity to participate in the events of the UMCH lecture series ReachHigher. Here you will get to know your future fellow students better and – beyond the learning – get a taste of your future student life.

Guaranteed learning success – whether on-site or online

We offer you the opportunity to participate in our medical preparatory courses both via face-to-face teaching at the UMCH campus in Hamburg and online. If you should decide to attend the course from home, you will be connected live via video streaming allowing you to actively participate in class. In addition, all College Semester events are recorded and then uploaded to our UMCH learning platform. There, they can be repeated as often as you wish and specifically searched for keywords.
