Start the semester early and improve your German skills
Shortly before the start of the academic year 2021/22, you will have the opportunity to improve your German language skills in a 3-week intensive German course at UMCH to reach the A2 language level.
UMCH’s A2 German course consists of 48 teaching units as well as a conversation section of approximately 20 hours. The entire course is designed so that you can start the new academic year well prepared. It includes not only lessons on grammar and speaking, but also playful learning. Especially during the last week, when the conversation part takes place, students learn in a relaxed atmosphere how to deal with everyday situations, such as ordering food or drinks and visiting their favorite places in Hamburg. During the first two weeks (from August 30 to September 12, 2021), classes will take place in the afternoon between 12:30 pm and 4 pm. Participation is possible both on-site and online – as it suits you best! The third week will take place exclusively on-site, between 9 am and 4 pm during weekdays. It will include numerous games and activities.

Why you should participate in the course
Proficiency in German is a required skill for everybody who aims for spending clinical teaching phases – as during UMCH’s medical studies program – at German teaching hospitals. A solid level of B2 is required for these parts of your studies.
For all medical students aiming to continue their careers after the conclusion of their studies in Germany, good German skills are even more important. Only if you master German on a C1 level, you will be granted a license to practice medicine in Germany.
This license (“Approbation”) is required for residency (special medical training) in Germany. Completed specializations from Germany are recognized all over the world, are highly valued, and can be door openers for jobs worldwide.
Benefits of participating in the German Course at UMCH
UMCH’s intensive German course is taught by an experienced teacher who will guide you through the basic linguistic obstacles and difficulties of living in Germany.
By the end of the course, you will be able to hold basic everyday conversations in German and you will already have the necessary vocabulary and solid grammatical knowledge to continue learning German.
