On March 25, 2022, the inaugural lecture of Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Dirk Jentschura took place in the auditorium of the UMFST-UMCH Campus in Hamburg. At the beginning of the event, he was awarded the title of “Honorary Professor” by Dean Assoc. Prof. Simona Muresan, MD, PhD.
Following the awarding of the title, two students who are members of the UMCH Band performed the Franz Schubert composition “Serenade (Ständchen)” in the piano transcription by Franz Liszt on piano and violin. Subsequently, the former Medical Director and Chief of the Department of General and Visceral Surgery at the UMFST-UMCH Teaching Hospital Deaconess Foundation Hospital Speyer gave a lecture entitled “Evolution of Colo-Rectal Surgery – Current Status and Perspectives for the Future”. First, he gave an overview of the history of colorectal surgery. Regarding the status quo in the field, he enumerated, among other topics, the advantages and disadvantages of the different surgical options currently in use. He also showed some videos of surgeries, which he commented on in detail, and gave the attending students valuable tips on how to deal with patients affected by proctological diseases. The lecture concluded with a Q&A session in which both the students as well as several of the lecturers present participated.
The event was rounded off in the UMCH Lounge, where students and other guests had the opportunity to exchange ideas with Dr. Jentschura in person over drinks and snacks.
