Klinikum Leer neues Lehrkrankenhaus des UMCH in Hamburg

Klinikum Leer in East Frisia is UMCH’s new academic teaching hospital.  The hospital’s motto – “competent, human, personal” – applies not only to patient care, but is also part of the educational philosophy applied in the clinical training of UMCH students.

Spread over 3 locations, Klinikum Leer treats around 80,000 inpatients and outpatients each year. In addition to the main facility in Leer, the new UMCH partner facility also includes the Rheiderland Hospital in Weener and the Borkum Island Hospital. With 1,300 employees, it is also one of the largest employers in the East Frisia region. Klinikum Leer has a total of 15 specialist departments. The main focus of treatment is on Cardiology, Endoprosthetics, Geriatrics, Psychosomatics, Spine and Vascular Surgery as well as Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.

During the practical units in the clinical section of their studies, the prospective UMCH doctors can familiarize themselves with all 3 hospital locations. Thus, among other benefits, they get the opportunity to gain insight into medical care on an island.
