UMFST-UMCH Days – Research Day

With the Research Day, which took place on Saturday, April 30, 2022 on the campus in Hamburg, the UMFST-UMCH Days came to a worthy conclusion. On the day, which was entirely dedicated to the topic of research, a total of nine scientists from the immediate and wider circle of the UMFST spoke about their work.

The event kicked off with Assoc. Prof. Peter Olah, who, in addition to teaching Medical Informatics and Biostatistics, also serves as Vice Rector for Scientific Research and Innovation. He gave an overview of the University’ research activities and facilities to the students, faculty and representatives present, as well as representatives of the UMFST-UMCH Teaching Hospitals. Prof. Mark Slevin, lecturer in Cell Pathology and Scientific Director of the UMFST Research Center, subsequently presented the current status of developments as well as the University’s future plans in the area of research in Targu Mures and Hamburg. Prior to a break with drinks and pastries, Prof. Roxana Cărare of the University of Southampton, who teaches Clinical Neuroanatomy there and is also an associate teacher at the UMFST, gave a detailed look at the University’ s specific research methods.

After the 15-minute break, Prof. Lucian Pușcașiu – Director of the UMFST Doctoral School of Medicine and Pharmacy – presented the University’s PhD program. After some questions from the audience, which were answered in detail by Prof. Pușcașiu, Prof. Amelia Tero-Vescan, who is also the Vice Dean for Research at the Faculty of Medicine in addition to her teaching position in Biochemistry, addressed the topic of “Basic Research” at UMFST-UMCH in her presentation. She not only introduced the newly formed research team consisting of several UMFST-UMCH students who are enthusiastic about research, but even let UMFST-UMCH student Ivan Bergo take the stage for a while. He presented findings from nutrition research and provided one of the highlights of the event with his energetic presence and evident enthusiasm. Finally, clinical psychologist and CBT psychotherapist Assoc. Prof. Cosmin Popa hosted a panel discussion on the current state of scientific knowledge on psychological interventions in the medical field. Prof. Adrian Rus from Southwestern Christian University (Bethany, Oklahoma, USA), Assoc. Prof. Mugur Ciumăgeanu from Western University of Timișoara (Timișoara, Romania) and Assoc. Prof. Radu Apostol from Caragiale National University of Theatre and Film “Ion Luca Caragiale” (Bucharest, Romania) participated in this panel.
