Bad Pyrmont/Hamburg – The AGAPLESION EV. BATHILDISKRANKENHAUS in Bad Pyrmont has been named a new Academic Teaching Hospital of the UMCH – University of Medicine Hamburg. This means that students can now complete their practical training phases at this facility. In preparation for this collaboration, extensive discussions were held with all stakeholders at the Bathildis Hospital. Additionally, visits took place at the Hamburg campus and the hospital in Bad Pyrmont.

“We are incredibly proud to now be an Academic Teaching Hospital of the UMCH – University of Medicine Hamburg. This is a significant gain for our Bathildis Hospital, and we are very excited about it. A very special thank you goes to Prof. Dr. Raphaela Verheggen and Prof. Dr. Christoph von Schulze Pellengahr for their invaluable support,” said Dr. Peter Hermeling, Managing Director.

UMCH students will be able to undertake their practical training phases at Bathildis Hospital from the third year of their clinical-practical education, starting as early as the second quarter of 2025, though more likely in 2026. “For us, the collaboration means an early integration of exceptionally trained students into our hospital processes,” Hermeling added. Furthermore, the hospital now has an additional opportunity to practically train highly qualified young physicians and potentially recruit them for the hospital.

UMCH students will find a wide range of specialties and disciplines at the Bathildis Hospital. The hospital is a key healthcare provider in the Hameln-Pyrmont region. As a general and advanced specialized care hospital, it offers 243 planned beds and employs over 600 staff members. Its services include anesthesiology, intensive and emergency medicine, pain therapy, general, visceral, and endocrine surgery, vascular and endovascular surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, neurosurgery and spinal surgery, neurology with a stroke unit, orthopedics, specialized orthopedic surgery, and rheumatology with a certified endoprosthetics center, hand surgery, trauma surgery, and sports traumatology. It is also certified as a regional trauma center and an elderly trauma center and features a urology department with visiting specialists.

A medical care center with practices for general surgery, general medicine, neurosurgery, neurology, orthopedics, radiology, and a hospice complements the hospital’s medical and nursing services.

The Bathildis Hospital celebrates its 125th anniversary this year. Since its grand opening on August 21, 1899, the hospital has developed into an essential institution in the region and is deeply rooted in the history and community of Bad Pyrmont. It will continue to be a reliable partner in healthcare for Bad Pyrmont and its surroundings in the future.
