The Welcome Days mark the start of studies at the UMFST-UMCH campus in Hamburg. The event has two main goals. The first is to provide students the opportunity to gain their first impressions of studying medicine. The second is to allow students to get to know each other and make initial contacts. The Welcome Days offer a varied and exciting program.
At the start of the studies, so-called Study Survival Guides take place, where first-semester students are given important experience and tips for a successful start to their studies by experienced fellow students. An important part of the guides are tips on coping with everyday student life and balancing academic obligations and personal well-being. This includes, for example, advice on how to deal with stress and exam anxiety as well as how to organize your studies. Another great advantage of the guides is the ability to anticipate potential hurdles that may arise during the course of your studies and to avoid possible problems. In this way, they give new students the confidence they need to successfully complete their studies.
At the start of their studies, our new students are supported by already enrolled students, so-called Student Ambassadors. With their first-hand experience, they give the first-semester students valuable tips and offer assistance. As contact persons, they offer support on an equal footing, build trust, and promote interaction among the students. The Student Ambassadors accompany the new students at University in Hamburg during the Welcome Days, among other things. They conduct campus tours and answer the newcomers' questions during their first few days. In this way, they make an important contribution to the social integration of the newcomers. Through their commitment and exemplary sense of community, they embody University's culture and strengthen the sense of community. Last but not least, they relieve the burden on University and campus staff by helping with everyday questions and concerns of new students. Overall, the Student Ambassadors make it much easier for new students to start their studies and make a significant contribution to a positive study experience.
Your welcome gift when you start studying at UMFST-UMCH. So that you can experience the various facets of Hamburg in your free time, including those within the framework of the diverse cultural landscape, in the first semester all UMFST-UMCH students receive their own culture pass ('free ticket'), with which they can visit a total of 42 cultural institutions in Hamburg free of charge
At the beginning of the academic year, you will be given your personal culture pass in the form of a card. You then only need to show this when you visit one of the many cultural sites where you can enjoy free entry thanks to the card. It is important that you write your name on the card and show it in combination with your student ID. You must also note that for events with a limited number of tickets, the first come, first served principle applies. In other words: From 30 minutes before the start of the event, you can get a ticket at the cash desk with your culture pass. However, only while stocks last.
Every semester there are numerous events and parties. At the beginning of the semester, we celebrate the birthday of our campus with our students and thus the beginning of the academic year. Further celebrations will be announced during the semester. Many students also organize their own parties.
