An important milestone for international medical education at UMFST-UMCH: Starting in 2027, the first students will undertake clinical rotations at CareWell Health Medical Center in East Orange, New Jersey. As an official UMFST-UMCH teaching hospital in the United States, CareWell offers new opportunities for hands-on medical training within the American healthcare system.
During an official visit, Prof. Simona Mureșan, MD, PhD, M.Sc., Vice-Rector of UMFST, Hon.-Prof. Christopher M. F. Musmann, M.Sc., UMCH Managing Director, Dr. Jamil Hmida, Teaching Hospital Coordinator, and Prof. Andreea Varga, Deputy Coordinator of UMFST-UMCH, explored the clinical training opportunities available at the hospital.
With more than 120 years of healthcare experience and 201 licensed beds, CareWell Health Medical Center provides a comprehensive clinical environment for medical education. From their third to their sixth year of study, eligible students can gain valuable hands-on experience under medical supervision. Depending on availability, clinical rotations may include emergency medicine, cardiology, orthopedics, nephrology, psychiatry and radiology.
Eligible students can spend up to 16 weeks per year gaining clinical experience in the American healthcare system, expanding their medical knowledge and developing an international perspective on patient care. For students from the United States, the partnership also provides an opportunity to complete part of their clinical training in their home country while pursuing their English-taught medical degree in Hamburg.
With the first clinical rotations scheduled for 2027, UMFST-UMCH continues to strengthen its international teaching hospital network and create new opportunities for students pursuing careers in medicine.
UMFST-UMCH sincerely thanks the entire CareWell Health Medical Center team for their collaboration and looks forward to welcoming the first students into this international clinical training partnership.
