With the “Study close to home” programme, you have the opportunity to complete your clinical training in your home region.
Upon application, you will receive binding confirmation of your teaching hospital.
This gives you certainty about where you will complete your clinical training from the third year onwards – even before you begin your studies.
The “Study close to home” programme combines long-term planning security with hands-on medical training. Your clinical training takes place at your designated teaching hospital throughout the clinical phase, while theoretical courses continue at the Hamburg campus. This allows you to benefit from a high-quality university education while completing your clinical training close to home.

Living at home – during your clinical training
Thanks to the early confirmation of your clinical training location, you can complete the clinical phase of your medical studies close to home. This means you can stay in your familiar surroundings throughout your training, avoid long-distance moves and save money, while keeping family and friends close by.
Combining theoretical teaching at the Hamburg campus with practical training at a fixed partner hospital offers a high level of planning certainty, enabling you to balance your studies with your private life.
Excellent prospects in your region after graduation
Completing your clinical training at a fixed hospital location over several years means you will get to know the processes and the team, and you will also build up valuable professional contacts early on. This creates excellent conditions for starting your professional career in the region directly after graduation.
Many graduates benefit from being part of the clinical team during their studies, which helps them to establish themselves in the hospital as future doctors.
The study model
The medical programme is taught in English language and spans six years.
Foundational studies in Hamburg
During the first two years, students acquire the medical and scientific foundations at the Campus in Hamburg.
Clinical phase
From the third year onwards, students begin their practical training at one of our partner teaching hospitals. Clinical placements take place at the same hospital for up to 16 weeks per year, allowing you to train at a familiar location throughout the clinical phase.
Theoretical teaching continues at Hamburg campus, combining academic learning with hands-on clinical experience.
