Insights into Hemato-Oncology – Knowledge That Can Save Lives

October 23, 2024

Under the title “The ABCs of Hemato-Oncology for Non-Hematologists/Oncologists,” Dr. Monika Schwalenberg offered valuable insights to UMCH students into a field that was new to many.

Dr. Schwalenberg, Clinic Director and Specialist in Internal Medicine, Hemato-Oncology, Pulmonology, and Palliative Medicine, provided participants with a comprehensive overview of the basics of Hemato-Oncology, as well as its applications in other fields. The lecture was particularly valuable for first-year students, giving them an initial glimpse into the field of oncology. For the upper-year students, who had already gained practical experience in teaching hospitals, it was an opportunity to deepen their existing knowledge and learn about new approaches.

The lecture was an enriching experience for students of all years. Following the lecture, an interactive exchange took place, with students asking numerous questions that were answered with great expertise. This direct communication not only enhanced understanding but also sparked interest in Hemato-Oncology.

The ReachHigher lecture was a great success and once again highlighted the importance of giving students early access to specialized fields. The mix of basic information and in-depth content made the event a valuable learning experience for all students, from first-year to upper-year.
