The Agaplesion Bethesda Hospital in Wuppertal is an academic teaching hospital affiliated with the Ruhr University Bochum and has recently become a new teaching hospital for the Hamburg Campus of the Neumarkt University Medical Center (UMFST-UMCH). With this collaboration, the hospital is taking another innovative approach to attract qualified young professionals: Students from the campus can now complete their practical training phases in Wuppertal.

“For us, this cooperation means the early integration of excellently trained students into our clinic processes,” confirms hospital CEO Norman Westphal. Additionally, the clinic now has another opportunity to provide practical training for highly qualified medical professionals and attract them to the hospital.

The hospital is an important healthcare provider in the Hameln-Pyrmont region. As a hospital for standard and advanced specialized care, it has 243 planned beds and over 600 employees.

The range of services includes the specialties of anesthesiology, intensive and emergency medicine, pain therapy, general, visceral, and endocrine surgery, vascular and endovascular surgery, internal medicine, cardiology and gastroenterology, neurosurgery and spinal surgery, neurology with a stroke unit, orthopedics, specialized orthopedic surgery and rheumatology with a certified endoprosthetics center, hand surgery, trauma surgery and sports traumatology with BG approval, certified as a regional trauma center and as a geriatric trauma center, as well as a urology department.

A medical care center with practices for general surgery, general medicine, neurosurgery, neurology, orthopedics, a radiology practice, and a hospice complement the medical and nursing services.

The Bathildis Hospital is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. Since its ceremonial opening on August 21, 1899, the hospital has developed into an important institution in the region and is deeply rooted in the history and community of Bad Pyrmont. It will continue to be a reliable partner in the healthcare of Bad Pyrmont and the surrounding area in the future.

Alexianer St. Remigius Hospital Opladen-Leverkusen offers medical specializations that are usually only found in significantly larger hospitals in Germany. Special areas of focus at St. Remigius Hospital include spinal surgery, artificial joint replacement, lung diagnostics, and colon cancer treatment. Every year, more than 13,000 inpatients are cared for here – in addition to around 20,000 outpatient treatments. More than 500 employees are committed to the well-being of the people entrusted to their care.

UMFST-UMCH students have the opportunity to experience a wide range of specialties and disciplines at Alexianer St. Remigius Hospital Opladen-Leverkusen when they complete their clinical-practical training there beginning in their third year of study.

The Deaconess Foundation Hospital in Speyer provides excellent medical care in 11 specialist departments. In 2018, more than 48,000 patients were treated here. As a hospital with a Christian paradigm, the holistic and interdisciplinary view on people and the care of patients characterized by benevolence are the most important aspects of treatment. In the Deaconess Foundation Hospital, students gain insight into various medical fields, including pediatrics, geriatrics, orthopedics and trauma surgery, pain and palliative medicine and urology. The aim of the hospital is the best possible medical care for all those who consult the hospital for medical treatment.

Delme Delmenhorst Hospital (DKD) was founded in 2016 through the merger of the long-established hospitals St. Josef-Stift Delmenhorst and Klinikum Delmenhorst. Through its predecessors, DKD can look back on a history of almost 150 years. The hospital, which will be moving into completely new premises in the near future, currently registers around 14,500 inpatient cases per year. It has 15 specialist departments and 7 medical care centers in the fields of neurosurgery, urology, radiology, trauma surgery and orthopedics, physiotherapy, pain therapy, visceral surgery and proctology. Quality control is of particular importance at DKD. This is expressed, among other things, in the various quality seals that reflect the high level of professionalism of the facility. The mission statement of Delme Delmenhorst Hospital is based on humanity, current scientific standards, and economic efficiency. In addition, great importance is attached to continuous development and a common orientation towards goals. Through the integration of an in-house nursing school, DKD can also draw on many years of experience in the training of medical professionals. Our students can therefore look forward to excellent structures and diverse areas of activity during their clinical-practical training in Delmenhorst.

The Filderklinik, located in Filderstadt-Bonlanden, was opened in 1975 and is one of six anthroposophically oriented hospitals in Germany. It combines modern conventional medicine with anthroposophic medicine to provide holistic patient care.

Eisenhüttenstadt Municipal Hospital, which is located about 30 kilometers south of Frankfurt (Oder), is a standard care hospital with more than 11,000 patients per year. In accordance with the guiding principle “Healing – Caring – Helping – Regional – Modern – Connected”, the focus is always on the optimal treatment of both outpatients and inpatients. Here, our students gain insights into various medical fields such as anesthesiology, intensive care and emergency medicine, pain therapy, internal medicine, psychiatry, psychosomatics and psychotherapy, gynecology and obstetrics, surgery, geriatrics, and pediatrics and adolescent medicine. The hospital also has five day clinics in Eisenhüttenstadt and surrounding locations, where patients receive surgical, geriatric and psychiatric care. Thus, students here have the opportunity to get to know a wide range of medical departments and gain insights into practice.

Elisabeth Hospital Essen was founded as early as 1844 and, with its more than 175-year history, is the oldest hospital in the major city of North Rhine-Westphalia. As an acute care hospital, it employs around 1,300 staff and offers 513 beds. Since 2006, it has been part of Contilia, a social services, Catholic services, and partner company, that operates numerous other medical and care-related facilities in the region around Essen. The hospital sees itself as a link between medical-technical know-how and modern medical infrastructure. In addition to thirteen specialist departments – for example in the fields of Diabetology, Vascular Surgery and Phlebology, as well as Kidney and High Pressure Diseases – the UMFST-UMCH Teaching Hospital also includes seven centers. These include a Gynecologic Tumor Center, an Esophageal Disease Center, and a Pediatric Neurologic Center. UMFST-UMCH students can thus expect a wide range of specialties and disciplines here for their clinical-practical training, which they complete starting in their 3rd year of study.

Heinrich Braun Hospital is a specialized care hospital located in the Zwickau district. With around 1,000 beds spread across its sites in Zwickau (Karl-Keil-Straße and Werdauer Straße), Kirchberg, and the children's center branch in Glauchau, it is one of the region’s central medical institutions. Approximately 3,000 employees work in 30 clinics, medical departments, and affiliated companies.

The hospital in western Zwickau has been part of the Marienthal district's cityscape since 1921. In 1934, it was named after its founder, Heinrich Braun. For generations of residents of Zwickau, it has been the go-to institution for emergency care and medical treatment.

As an established hospital providing specialized care, Helios Klinikum Hildesheim stands out for its comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic options, as well as state-of-the-art medical technology. With 566 beds, Helios Klinikum Hildesheim is a leading healthcare facility where over 1,300 dedicated employees work around the clock, 365 days a year, to ensure the well-being of its patients. Klinikum Leer has been a reliable healthcare provider for the residents of East Frisia for 150 years and is also one of the largest regional employers. In recent years, almost all areas of the facility have been renovated or newly built, creating a state-of-the-art working environment for treatment and care. At its three 3 locations – in Leer, in Weener, and on Borkum – more than 1,300 employees in a total of 15 specialist departments look after the well-being of the patients. Every year, around 20,000 people are treated here as inpatients and a further 60,000 are treated as outpatients. The main focus is on cardiology, endoprosthetics, geriatrics, psychosomatics, spinal and vascular surgery, and pediatrics and adolescent medicine. Klinikum Leer is known supraregionally above all for its services in these areas. During the practical units as part of the clinical study section, all three hospital sites are open to our students.

As a maximum-care hospital, Klinikum Lüdenscheid of the hospital association Märkische Kliniken provides around 938 planned beds and has 1,900 employees, including around 340 doctors and 860 nurses. The facility includes 29 clinics and institutes, making it the largest is the largest hospital in the South Westphalia region.

With modern examination and treatment facilities, Klinikum Lüdenscheid operates at the cutting edge of medical science. Its top-quality care facility is therefore ideally suited for UMFST-UMCH students to gain experience in a wide range of specialties and disciplines as part of their clinical-practical training starting in their third year of study.

Knappschaft Kliniken in Bottrop is a modern and efficient hospital with 372 beds currently. It comprises the following 10 clinics: Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Internal Medicine, Angiology, Cardiology, Geriatric Medicine, Nephrology/Dialysis and Rheumatology, Neurology, Radiology/Nuclear Medicine, and Urology, as well as Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine. In addition, the complex is an academic teaching hospital of the University of Duisburg-Essen. With two new buildings, in which a regionally certified stroke unit, three peripheral bed wards, two comfort wards, and a 22-bed interdisciplinary intensive care unit, the strong infrastructure of the hospital was further developed in a future-oriented manner. A neurological rehabilitation clinic with 32 inpatient beds and 60 full-day outpatient therapy places is connected to the hospital.

LWL Clinic Hemer/Hans-Prinzhorn Clinic is a specialized facility for psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics near Dortmund. It is part of PsychiatrieVerbund Westfalen (Westphalia Psychiatric Association), which cares for more than 140,000 patients annually in over 100 facilities and employs around 8,500 staff.

At the clinic in Hemer, doctors and therapists work with mentally ill patients to help them regain their mental balance and live as symptom-free as possible. A broad spectrum of mental illnesses is treated here. These include, for example, eating and anxiety disorders, dementia, delusional and obsessive-compulsive disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, stress and burnout, as well as personality disorders. In addition, the clinic trains health care and nursing staff and has its own advanced training and prevention center. The location of the clinic building in the midst of forests and meadows offers patients additional recreational opportunities during a stay in nature.

At LWL Clinic Hemer/Hans-Prinzhorn Clinic, our students can learn to work with mentally ill people and accompany their healing process under medical supervision.

LWL-Clinic Marl-Sinsen is dedicated to the treatment of children and adolescents with mental health disorders. The approach involves employing individually tailored therapies to cure or alleviate illnesses. Young patients receive support in managing their limitations and leading a self-determined life.

In addition to medical and psychological measures, a variety of therapeutic offerings are provided. Specialized therapies emphasize action-oriented approaches, where patients primarily engage with the mediums of movement, play, creative work, music, art, relaxation, and animal care. LWL-Clinic Marl-Sinsen places importance on holistic care to meet the individual needs of young patients.

As a basic and standard care provider, the hospital has 200 beds in the specialist departments of Intensive Care Medicine, Cardiology, Geriatrics, Gastroenterology, General and Visceral Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Trauma Surgery and Orthopedics, as well as Gynecology and Obstetrics. In addition, the specialties of nephrology, urology, spinal surgery and radiology are covered by cooperative agreements. A total of around 8,000 inpatients and a further 19,000 outpatients are treated annually.

Since April 2020, the operating company Städt. Krankenhaus Maria-Hilf Brilon GmbH has been complemented by the subsidiary MVZ Am Schönschede GmbH, which comprises a surgical practice and a general practitioner’s practice.

Marien-Hospital Marl is a member of the KKRN Katholisches Klinikum Ruhrgebiet Nord GmbH hospital network within the KERN Katholische Einrichtungen Ruhrgebiet Nord GmbH service network. The Marl hospital has seven specialist medical departments, a palliative care unit, and an affiliated school for healthcare and nursing professions. Almost 1,000 highly qualified employees at Marien Hospital are committed to the health and well-being of over 13,000 inpatients and over 17,000 outpatients a year. With almost 300 beds, the KKRN GmbH hospital provides an important part in the medical care of the northern Ruhr region.

The Medical Center for Health Bad Lippspringe (MZG-Westfalen) near Paderborn is a network consisting of 5 hospitals with different focuses and more than 900 beds. It is a primary care facility mainly dedicated to internal diseases. In addition to specialist departments in areas such as general internal medicine, ENT, as well as pneumology and infectology, there is also a pain center, a center for sleep medicine, a weaning center, a palliative care unit, and a mental health clinic. Furthermore, the rehabilitation of patients plays an important role at MZG-Westfalen. Among others, the Rehabilitation Clinic for Psychosomatics and Weaning Treatment, the Rehabilitation Clinic for Respiratory and Cardiovascular Diseases, the Oncological Focus Clinic for Follow-Up Rehabilitation, and the Rehabilitation Clinic for Orthopedics, Traumatology and Sports Medicine are integrated into the network of clinics. A school for physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy (Lippe-Institute) completes the wide range of facilities at MZG-Westfalen. The top priority for every treatment at MZG-Westfalen – apart from restoring physical fitness – is to improve patients’ quality of life. What is special about this UMFST-UMCH teaching hospital is that, among other treatments, medically supervised forest, climate and exercise therapies as well as mindfulness walks take place in the 200-hectare Bad Lippspringe healing forest, which is close to the city. At the MZG-Westfalen, our students thus have the opportunity to learn about other forms of therapy beyond conventional medicine and gain new perspectives as part of the clinical-practical units from the third year of study.

The Nardini Klinikum is a modern network hospital providing specialized care with 548 beds and around 280 training positions at its Zweibrücken and Landstuhl locations. The network hospital includes departments of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, Vascular and Visceral Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Radiology, Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, Joint Surgery and Sports Traumatology, as well as affiliated departments of Otolaryngology and Urology. The clinic is multifunctional and connected with several medical care centers and maximum care hospitals, resulting in further quality improvements for patients.

The Protestant Hospital in Mettmann has 16 medical departments. From General Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Cardiology and Vascular, Neuro and Trauma Surgery to Interdisciplinary Intensive Care Medicine – this teaching hospital offers UMCH students a broad spectrum of clinical disciplines in which they can gain practical experience. As a Protestant institution, patient-oriented treatment and the individual care of each individual are part of the hospital’s philosophy. A highly qualified team of 60 physicians and over 400 nurses ensures that the approximately 26,000 patients treated annually receive the best medical care according to the highest standards and with the help of the latest technologies and treatment methods.

The Protestant Hospital in Mettmann is certified according to the DIN ISO 9001:2015 quality management standard.

St. Elisabeth Hospital in Damme near Osnabrück can be proud of a history of more than 150 years in the medical care of patients. This medical facility for basic and standard care has six main departments and one inpatient department. Each year, 13,000 inpatients and 75,000 outpatients are treated here.

In addition to specialist clinics for general and visceral surgery, internal medicine, neurology, and anesthesia and intensive care medicine, there are various outpatient outlets, for example in the areas of sleep medicine, vascular surgery, wound treatment, and ENT. St. Elisabeth Hospital is known beyond the region for its Neurology, Orthopedics and Gynecology Departments.

For the treatment of strokes, the Department of Neurology has its own Stroke Unit and Neurological Early Rehabilitation Unit. In addition, the treatment of multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, dementia and pain disorders as well as movement disorders are part of the range of services provided on-site. Other renowned facilities at St. Elisabeth Hospital include special centers for Endometriosis, Endoprosthetics, and Trauma Surgery.

The Dorsten hospital has ten specialist medical departments, a palliative care unit, and an affiliated training institute for healthcare and nursing professions. The almost 1,000 highly qualified employees at St. Elisabeth Hospital are committed to the health and well-being of over 10,000 inpatients and over 25,000 outpatients a year. With 300 beds, the KKRN GmbH hospital provides an important part of the medical care in the northern Ruhr region.

The traditional clinic in Moers – located near Duisburg on the Rhine – has many years of experience as a teaching and training facility due to its long-term cooperation with the St. Bernhard Hospital Nursing School in Kamp-Lintfort, which has existed since 1990. In addition, the St. Josef Hospital in Moers comprises more than 10 departments – including Anesthesia, Neurology, Rheumatology, Cardiology, and Nuclear Medicine. The clinic, which has been in existence since 1908, thus offers ideal conditions for our students to apply in practice the knowledge they have learned on campus in Hamburg. Starting in the third academic year, the students will be able to practice dealing with patients there. At the St. Josef Hospital in Moers the focus is always on patient orientation. The guiding principle of the hospital is “Nothing is so good that it cannot be improved.”

The St. Vinzenz Hospital Dinslaken was founded in 1883 and thus looks back on a history of more than 100 years. As a Catholic hospital for standard care, it now has 8 specialist departments. In addition, the hospital has a Social Pediatric Centre and a Central Emergency Room. Here, 17,000 inpatient and 49,000 outpatient treatment measures are carried out annually. Great importance is attached to the well-being of everyone – the patients, but also the hospital’s employees and customers. Another focus of St. Vinzenz Hospital is interdisciplinarity: In addition to the various specialist departments, it also has, among other things, inpatient and outpatient physiotherapy, a sleep laboratory and an obesity center.

St. Vincenz Hospital Limbrug was founded in 1850 and has 523 beds with 28,000 patients per year, who are cared for by over 1,500 employees. The hospital’s medical-technical equipment is at the most modern level and supports the physicians in diagnosis and therapy. Treatment paths are constantly being developed to provide the best possible care for the people in the region. In order to ensure excellently trained personnel, St. Vincenz Hospital also operates what is known as the BILDUNGSWERKstadt – an academy for health care professionals.

During their practical phase, students can gain insights into a total of fifteen specialist departments. These include Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, as well as Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. In addition, the hospital has a stroke unit where acute strokes are treated. Students can benefit from the hospital’s broad-based team of experts and their expertise in a variety of fields. The department heads consist of experienced and accomplished academic teaching staff with current teaching assignments at the university hospitals in Aachen, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Göttingen and Heidelberg.

The Werra-Meissner Clinic is a municipal hospital in northern Hesse with two locations: Eschwege and Witzenhausen. Around 19,000 inpatients and 36,000 outpatients are treated here every year. With more than 1,000 employees, it provides basic and standard medical care in the Werra-Meissner region. The hospital site in Eschwege has 15 specialist departments – from General and Visceral Surgery, Cardiology and Internal Intensive Care Medicine to Pneumology, Respiratory and Sleep Medicine. Particularly noteworthy is the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, which provides psychiatric and psychotherapeutic care for the Werra-Meissner district’s population, with more than 100,000 inhabitants. In addition, two certified interdisciplinary centers belong to the hospital: an Obesity Center and a Vascular Center. The hospital’s range of services is supplemented by other treatment offerings – both for inpatients and outpatients. For example, the Werra-Meissner Clinic has a Urology and an ENT department as well as offers from the fields of Physiotherapy, Physical Medicine and Occupational Therapy. During their practical training in the clinic, the students therefore have the opportunity to gain an insight into various specialist departments and become familiar with medical practice.
