UMFST Neumarkt a. M., with over 11,000 students, is the largest and most research-intensive medical university in Romania, playing a central role in advancing evidence-based medicine. Through innovative technologies and diagnostic and therapeutic methods developed at the university, health risk factors can be identified early and treatments continuously improved. Alongside high-quality teaching, research is a key focus area. The Hamburg campus (UMCH) combines research and teaching, allowing students to gain practical insights into the latest findings. In addition to interdisciplinary projects, the university collaborates with over 150 international experts. This intensive research work regularly results in patents and publications presented at national and international scientific conferences.
During the UMFST-UMCH Days 2024, students had the opportunity to submit abstracts addressing research-relevant medical questions. The promotion of research is of great importance at UMFST-UMCH, and the Scientific Sessions held as part of University Days have contributed to supporting students in this area. In short presentations in the auditorium on the Hamburg campus, the students presented a wide range of topics that impressed the committees. A clinical and a preclinical committee evaluated the students' work and selected the winners of the Scientific Sessions. We are proud to announce that a summary of all abstracts submitted has been published in the supplement of the journal 'Acta Marisiensis seria Medica'. You can find the related news article here.
To inspire students in research, the Junior Researcher Academy has been established. This series of events imparts the fundamentals and latest approaches to scientific work in medicine. By participating in university research groups, students gain firsthand experience in formulating and testing hypotheses, as well as developing innovative medical solutions. This not only sharpens their scientific acumen but also provides valuable experience in international and interdisciplinary teamwork. The Academy supports students pursuing a career in research through various formats: meetups, workshops, training sessions, and hackathons offer opportunities for exchange, learning and networking with a growing community of research enthusiasts.
We support committed and highly qualified young researchers. After their studies, our students have the opportunity to complete a four-year doctoral program through which they can obtain a PhD degree. This program can be completed entirely from Germany and is open to graduates of UMCH as well as those from other universities in Germany and abroad. It is aimed at anyone who would like to acquire additional qualifications for a career in research during their time as an assistant doctor.
