ReachHigher – Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Peter Schott gives lecture on “Interventional Cardiology”

March 11, 2022

On March 10, 2022, an edition of the ReachHigher lecture series titled “Interventional Cardiology – Review of the Last Decades and Future Perspectives” was held in the lounge of the UMFST-UMCH campus in Hamburg. The speaker was Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Peter Schott from the UMFST-UMCH Teaching Hospital in Eschwege, the Werra-Meissner Clinic.

In his lecture, Dr. Schott, who serves as Medical Director as well as Chief Physician of Cardiology and Internal Intensive Care Medicine in Eschwege, gave an overview of the history and milestones in the development of Cardiology. Although the number of deaths from diseases of the cardiovascular system – such as coronary heart disease, heart failure or acute myocardial infarction – has been declining for several decades, they still account for a large proportion of the general causes of death. The main reason for the decline in these figures is the developments in cardiological medical technology since the invention of the electrocardiogram by Willem Einthoven in the late 19th century. As a result, patients can be helped much more quickly and efficiently nowadays, giving them a much better chance of survival.

Following the main part of the lecture, Dr. Schott gave the students present an overview of the various opportunities available to them after graduation in the different hospital categories that exist in Germany. There was also the opportunity to ask the specialist in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Special Internal Intensive Care Medicine individual questions.
