From September 26 to October 1, Welcome Week 2022 took place for UMFST-UMCH students in Hamburg. On Monday, the week was kicked off with “Donut Panic” – an event in the UMCH Cafeteria. All students received a free donut during their lunch break. In addition, they could inform themselves at an info booth of our gym partner VAF (Verein Aktive Freizeit e.V.) about discounts for a possible membership.
On the second day of the Welcome Week, second- and third-year students were given “Study Survival Guides” in which fellow students from the respective higher semesters gave them important tips for a successful start into the new academic year. In this way, they are provided with important pieces of information at an early stage so that they have a compass of sorts to guide them and help them avoid mistakes.
On Wednesday, our students were able to enjoy one of the classics of German street food – the currywurst – including baguette and cole slaw for only € 1 in the UMCH Cafeteria. For all the veggie fans among them, there was also a plant-based version. To heat up the atmosphere even more, there was loud music as well.
The academic part of the Welcome Week was provided by four research-enthusiastic students on Thursday evening during a first-ever “Research Night” at UMFST-UMCH’s auditorium. In the course of the event, Ivan Bergo and David Eckert presented current results from tumor research, while Darya Mavayi and Julius Balkenhol each presented cardiology cases which they had previously presented at the CordX Masterclass in Cardiovascular Surgery and Cardiology congress.
Before the Welcome Week ended on October 1 with the 3rd Birthday Party of the Hamburg Campus at the Thomas Read Club on the Reeperbahn, several “Meet the Dean” sessions with Dean Assoc. Prof. Simona Muresan took place on Friday. These serve as a means of mutual exchange between the academic board of UMFST-UMCH and its students, which in turn is intended to lead to an optimized study experience for all.
