Recently, UMFST-UMCH student Nicole Wierling received a partial scholarship from the UMFST-UMCH Teaching Hospital LWL Clinic Hemer.
Nicole studies in her second year at the Hamburg campus and can already look back on a completed vocational training and three years of professional experience as a nurse. In addition, she has been working at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) since 2021 while studying – also as a nurse. There, she works primarily in the closed acute ward of the child psychiatry department. However, she says that she was fascinated by the subjects of Psychiatry and Psychology even before she started her studies: “It fascinates me how much you can achieve in Psychiatry and Psychology. After all, I already worked as a nurse before I started my studies. I was very impressed by the extent to which health can be promoted with willpower and psychological support alone”, Nicole says.
Due to her great interest in the thematic field of Psychiatry and Psychology, she also participated in the past in the various events that have been offered so far on the UMFST-UMCH Campus related to these subjects. After hearing about the scholarship in a workshop held by Dr. Patrick Debbelt, Medical Director of the LWL Clinic in Hemer, the aspiring doctor applied to the psychiatric clinic in North Rhine-Westphalia with her CV and a letter of motivation. After a selection interview with Dr. Debbelt and two other board members, she was confirmed shortly before Christmas 2021 that she would receive the scholarship. This includes the assumption of costs for a complete academic year by the LWL Clinic. In return, Nicole commits to completing two mandatory internships in Hemer. She will start the first of these next summer.
