Studying abroad becomes much easier when you find people who make you feel at home. At UMFST-UMCH, students from across South Asia have built a vibrant and welcoming community through the SASS – South Asian Student Society.
SASS is more than just a student club - it is a family for many international students in Hamburg. The society creates a space where students can celebrate their culture, meet new friends, support one another, and feel connected while studying far away from home.
Throughout the year, SASS organizes a wide variety of cultural and social events that bring students together and create unforgettable memories. These include:
The community is incredibly diverse, bringing together students from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and many other backgrounds. At the same time, SASS warmly welcomes everyone who is interested in South Asian culture, traditions, and friendships.
For many students, moving to Germany can feel overwhelming at first. Through SASS, new students quickly find guidance, friendships, and a strong support network. Whether it is helping newcomers settle into student life, celebrating festivals together, or simply sharing a meal after classes, the society helps students feel comfortable and connected.
Life in Hamburg becomes much more meaningful when you are surrounded by people who understand your culture, language, food, and traditions. SASS creates exactly that environment - a home away from home for South Asian students at UMCH.
Everyone is welcome.
