On Saturday, September 25, 2021, the opening ceremony of the 2021/22 academic year was held in the form of a live stream. The event was attended by several hundred students, representatives from the UMFST-UMCH teaching hospitals, faculty and friends of the university.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Julius Balkenhol, a second-year student. After his warm welcome address, UMCH Dean Assoc. Prof. Simona Muresan, MD, PhD, and UMFST Rector Prof. Leonard Azamfirei, MD, PhD, spoke first and addressed motivational speeches to the new and incumbent medical students as well as the other guests. Furthermore, Ellen Pinocy and Baha Samet Uzun from the Student Council took the floor and delivered a thoughtful joint speech. UMCH third-year student Fatemeh Baharifar provided the musical accompaniment for the event. She impressed with a self-produced contribution in the form of the musical piece “A Whole New World” by U.S. composer Alan Menken. The event concluded with a compelling compilation of numerous video messages in which first-year students introduced themselves and expressed their hopes, goals and aspirations for their time at UMCH.
