If you want to start studying in autumn 2019, you should start planning now. An early application is recommended because the places are allocated successively. At the time of application, you are in the final year of secondary school (e.g. Gymnasium, high school) or already have a high school diploma (Abitur or equivalent). You can (and should) submit your application before you receive your high school diploma. The admission procedure is based on the submission of a written application and a personal interview. Applicants with a German Abitur must have an average grade of at least 3.0. Applicants with an IB diploma must have at least 31.5 out of 45 points. Applicants with a Cambridge Advanced Level Certificate must have passed Biology and Chemistry (as Advanced Level) with a minimum score of B. Applicants with other high school diploma should contact the UMCH team for information on the respective admission grade. Having already a place to study, you can travel, work or gain valuable experience for your studies during the months leading up to the start of your studies. The written application is easy and convenient via our online application portal. You upload all the necessary information and documents online – the UMCH team will advise and support you in preparing your application documents and in all further steps of the application process. You will have to send the application documents to the university as a hard copy only after a successful admission. The written application includes, for example, an individual letter of motivation, a curriculum vitae in English and school certificates. Our application guide provides a complete list of all required documents as well as detailed information on what standards they have to meet.
Step 1: Written application
The written application includes, for example, an individual letter of motivation, a curriculum vitae in English and school certificates. Our application guide provides a complete list of all required documents as well as detailed information on what standards they have to meet.
Admission to the UMCH takes place on the basis of your written application documents and a motivational interview. In our application guideline, you will find detailed information on the admission requirements, the detailed application process and the required application documents.
Step 2: Personal interview
If the application documents meet the admission requirements of the university, applicants will be invited to a video call interview or to a personal interview in Hamburg. The interview is conducted in English and the aim is to determine the applicants’ ability and motivation to successfully complete medical studies in English. Questions about the submitted documents may be asked (e.g. work or internship certificates for previous activities in the medical field or voluntary work, etc.). Usually, applicants receive the results of their application within approx. two weeks after the interview.
