UMCH cooperates with Heidekreis-Klinikum

Students of the campus can complete their practical phases in Soltau and Walsrode, as well as in the newly emerging Heidekreis-Klinikum in Bad Fallingbostel in the future.

With this partnership, the clinic is taking another innovative step in attracting qualified young professionals: UMCH students will be able to complete their practical phases in the hospitals of Soltau and Walsrode, as well as in the future at the new HKK central clinic in Bad Fallingbostel. “For us, the cooperation means the early integration of excellently trained students into our clinic processes,” said HKK Managing Director Dr. Achim Rogge. Additionally, the clinic now has another opportunity to practically train highly qualified junior doctors and recruit them for the hospital.

UMCH students will find a wide range of specialties and disciplines at the Heidekreis-Klinikum, where they can complete their clinical-practical training starting from the third year of study. The hospital has ten specialist departments and one affiliated department with around 1,200 employees at the two locations in Soltau and Walsrode. In both Soltau and Walsrode, there are also Medical Care Centers: the Radiological Care Center in Soltau, as well as cardiology, surgery, and pediatric practices. In Walsrode, there are practices for general medicine, gynecology & obstetrics, hematology, oncology, and palliative medicine, as well as a practice for senology and oncological gynecology. Additionally, the Department of Psychiatry & Psychotherapy has its own day clinic for outpatient therapeutic treatment of patients.

In the future, students will be able to complete their practical phases at the new Heidekreis-Klinikum in Bad Fallingbostel. On more than 20,000 square meters of usable space, a new central clinic is to be built here by 2028 for around 278 million euros, merging the two HKK locations in Soltau and Walsrode. The hospital will offer the following specialties: emergency department, general internal medicine, general surgery, gynecology/obstetrics, pediatrics, trauma surgery/orthopedics, visceral surgery, gastroenterology, cardiology/angiology, stroke unit, senology and breast surgery, oncology/hematology, psychiatry & psychotherapy, as well as geriatrics and palliative care. This new facility will become a regional center of specialized care with a total of 345 planned beds. Additionally, there will be 31 more places for a day clinic in psychiatry and six operating rooms, plus a hybrid operating room. The new building will enable ambulatory-stationary networking through its structural features, e.g., in senology and oncology. Furthermore, a radiology department will be established, which can perform both inpatient and outpatient services directly in the clinic. Even today, the Heidekreis-Klinikum is developing vascular medicine, which will significantly expand its range of services with the then available hybrid operating room, including nephrological services. At the same time, outpatient services will be expanded in the medium-sized centers in Soltau and Walsrode.
