German Red Cross blood donation campaign at UMCH – students demonstrate their sense of responsibility

In 2021, there was once again a severe shortage of blood reserves, which are still urgently needed – about 15,000 in Germany every day. On average, a patient is in need of a blood donation every seven seconds. For this reason, a big campaign by the German Red Cross (DRK) was once again held at UMCH on October 14, 2021.

After an individual examination by a DRK doctor to determine their suitability to donate blood, the students were given the opportunity to become potential lifesavers by participating in the campaign. For this purpose, the employees of the German Red Cross adhered to a strict hygiene protocol as required by the Corona regulations. After giving approximately 500 milliliters of blood each, the aspiring physicians received a goodie bag as a way of thanking them for their selfless efforts.

For all faculty, students and staff of the campus who could not participate this time or would like to donate blood again, there will be further dates on March 3 and October 13, 2022, during which they will have the opportunity to do so.
