Opening Ceremony of the UMFST-UMCH Days

On April 29, 2022, the Opening Ceremony of the two-day UMFST-UMCH Days took place in the auditorium of UMFST-UMCH. In addition, the event also consisted of a presentation on the use of augmented reality technology in teaching at the Hamburg campus, a Teaching Hospital Fair, and a Research Day dedicated entirely to the topic of medical research. Thus, three of the most important aspects of medical studies were covered: the use of the latest achievements in medical technology, comprehensive practical training at the bedside as well as the integration of research results into theoretical and practical teaching. First of all, the University Rector Prof. Leonard Azamfirei and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Assoc. Prof. Simona Muresan gave opening speeches. Furthermore, the Medical Director of UMFST-UMCH, Prof. Dr. Jobst Nitsch, also had his say.

After the opening speeches of the university and campus leadership, those present also had the pleasure of listening to a delegation of high-ranking Romanian officials who visited Hamburg especially for the occasion. The delegation consisted of the Minister of Education Prof. Sorin Cîmpeanu, the State Secretary for Higher Education at the Ministry of Education Prof. Gigel Paraschiv, the State Secretary for Global Affairs Daniela Gîtman, the General Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Filip and the Romanian Ambassador to Germany Adriana Stănescu. The delegation of politicians and diplomats was enthusiastic about the development that has taken place at UMFST-UMCH in recent years and also acknowledged the positive impact of the international medical campus on German-Romanian relations.

The opening ceremony ended with a speech by Hon.-Prof. Dr. med. Christian Berg from the Protestant Hospital Mettmann (EVK). He spoke on behalf of the many representatives of the UMFST-UMCH Teaching Hospitals who participated in a Teaching Hospital Fair in the afternoon, which was also part of the UMFST-UMCH Days. Among other topics, the Chief Physician of the Center for Internal Medicine emphasized how enriching the first clinical-practical stay of the UMFST-UMCH students at his institution had been for the EVK Mettmann.
