Opening ceremony of the academic year 2021/22 at the UMFST main campus in Targu Mures

September 22, 2021

On Sunday, September 19, 2021, at the UMFST main campus in Targu Mures the opening ceremony for the academic year 2021/22 took place. Among those present were members of the university’s academic community as well as first-year students of the faculties of medicine and other fields of study offered by the UMFST.

The words of welcome for the international students were delivered in English by Vice Dean and UMCH Lecturer Assoc. Prof. Amelia Tero-Vescan, PhD on behalf of the Faculty of Medicine. University Rector Prof. Leonard Azamfirei, MD, PhD congratulated the attending first-year students in his speech for passing the various entrance exams that enable them to study at the UMFST. At the same time, he emphasized that given the current circumstances, the university will do its utmost to provide students with a quality higher education. In doing so, he pleaded for the most direct and immediate interaction possible between teachers and students. This is especially important in the medical field, Prof. Azamfirei said. In addition, he added, there was hope that academic achievements could again be celebrated together with students’ relatives as soon as possible, for instance during the graduation ceremony in 2022. All in all, however, the mood at the opening ceremony was extremely festive – despite the typical Corona measures.

On Saturday, September 25, 2021, starting at 11 a.m., there will be a digital opening ceremony for UMCH – the German branch of the UMFST in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld – that will last approximately 45 minutes and will be open to students, their families, faculty and staff of the campus.
