On Monday, September 30, 2019, UMCH’s campus in Hamburg was officially opened. Around 300 guests from Germany and all over the world attended the ceremony. In the presence of students and their parents, professors, medical and commercial directors as well as numerous well-known representatives from health and education policy, not only was the brand-new medical campus inaugurated but also the academic year.
Among the speakers at the opening ceremony were Wolfgang Bosbach, H. E. Emil Hurezeanu (Romanian Ambassador for Germany) and Prof. Dr. Sorin Cimpeanu (President of the Romanian Association of University Rectors). The moment when the University Rector Prof. Dr. med. Leonard Azamfirei handed over the keys to the Dean of UMCH, Prof. Dr. med. Simona Muresan was particularly moving since it symbolizes not only the doors of UMCH opening for future students but also a new chapter in the history of the Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Targu Mures.
For the Romanian university, the opening of UMCH marks the beginning of a new era. “UMCH is the result of a unique and ambitious Romanian-German partnership”, says Prof. Dr. med. Simona Muresan. In his speech, Wolfgang Bosbach emphasized that studying medicine at the Hamburg campus strengthens the diversity of European cooperation. In addition, pointed out that Hamburg is a particularly attractive campus location.
The opening ceremony was accompanied by music from Mozart and Beethoven as well as the national anthems of Germany and Romania. After the event’s official part guests had the opportunity to exchange ideas at champagne reception that followed and visit the spacious and state-of-the-art campus premises.
